About St. Matthew’s Church

In 1945 the Diocesan Missionary Society of the Diocese of Virginia initiated the planning for St. Matthew’s, purchasing a portion of the present property for $3500 for the first Episcopal mission to be established in the Richmond area since St. Stephen’s in 1911. It was projected, in this post World War II growth period, that the mission would serve 30 subdivisions that included an estimated 150 Episcopal families. In the seven decades years since, St. Matthew’s has grown by leaps and bounds.

About St. Matthew’s Preschool & MMO

St. Matthew’s Preschool, an outreach program, is a developmentally-based, early childhood program designed to meet the social, emotional, spiritual, cognitive, and physical needs of preschoolers within a safe and structured Christian setting. The preschool accepts children of the church and community, ages 18 months to 5 years.
